Cancellation Policy: Life is life and sometimes things just happen, we know we understand that completely. The boss lets us out late at work, end of the day reports take forever to run, the kids fight like little ninjas, little girl tea parties last longer than expected with the stuffed animal guests, the dogs run away like they stole something, Santa Clause is in town, etc etc. We are pretty relaxed. But we would appreciate it greatly if we are notified within 24 hours of your booking date and time so as to et another client get a chance at a relaxing massage experience.
CANCELLATION POLICY & TARDINESS POLICY: We do require a 24-hour cancellation notification for a scheduled massage session that you cannot keep for any reason. You will be charged the entire cost of the massage or orthopedic service you had booked if you do not give us 24-hours notice to cancel or reschedule. We understand that things come and happen, we just ask that you are respectful of our time as we are respectful of yours.
If you arrive late for your appointment, your session will end at the originally scheduled end-time for your appointment, so that the next client following you is not penalized.
What to Expect: Clothing: Most massage and bodywork table treatments are traditionally performed with the client unclothed and draped however, you may decide to disrobe to your own comfort level. You will be properly draped at all times. Draping means that the areas of the body that are not being worked on are going to be covered by sheets and a blanket for the comfort and conservation of the client.
My personal spill is that anything that is covered with sheets and blankets, I ONLY do compressions and stretches and fascia work "underneath the sheet." Any tissue that is exposed after draping the particular area that I am working on, will be worked on bare skin with either my hands, graston or guasha tools, tok sen tools, hot towels or acupressure tools. I will always respect the modesty and conservation of my client. It is my goal to make each individual feel safe, secure and comfortable while on my table and in my hands. Trust is earned, not given and I take this very seriously that I have the honor of your trust and confidence of being your massage therapist.
Will I be covered during the session? You will be properly covered or draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed. No areas will be exposed without your consent. You should always let your therapist know if you are uncomfortable for any reason during your massage session.
Must I be completely undressed? You should undress to your desired level of comfort. About half of our clients prefer to be completely undressed, while the other half prefers to keep their undergarments on. This is completely up to you. You will undress and dress in the privacy of your massage room and will be securely covered by a blanket and a sheet during your massage session.
How often should I receive a massage? For those who use massage as preventative care or to manage daily stress, one massage a month is common. Weekly sessions may be desirable if you are receiving massage for injury relief or to relieve chronic tightness that is interfering with your daily life. There are many people who incorporate massage therapy at least twice a month for optimal therapeutic relief. Athletes often prefer bi-monthly treatments to help out with muscle recovery and muscle tension.
What does a massage therapist’s license or certification mean? A license means that a massage therapist has met the requirements and paid the fee to legally practice massage in your city, county and/or state. To obtain a license, a massage therapist will usually have to complete a minimum number of training hours at an accredited or accepted school or training center. In the state of Texas, this is 500 hours. Your therapist and owner has completed this program Twice as well as an additional orthopedic massage therapy program of 300 hours and a Myoskeletal alignment therapy program training as well. So basically, you're in good hands.
What is included in the session time? A session consists of massage, time for you to dress and undress and time to communicate with the therapist to make your massage truly customized. Each time you visit an Indigo Body Massage & Orthopedics studio, you will go through an assessment of postural analysis and palpation of the desired focus area or injury. We will devote at least half of your session time to the area of focus, pain or injury, to ensure pain relief and pail management and to help with reoccurring pain patterns. This is done to ensure each and every massage session you receive from us meets or exceeds your expectations, within reason of course.
Will the practitioner be present when I disrobe? No. Absolutely Not. The practitioner will leave the room while you undress and get underneath the sheets and blankets and relax onto the massage table.
PRIVACY: Will I be covered during the treatment? Your comfort level and privacy is of our utmost concern. You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on individually will be uncovered.
What parts of my body will be massaged? You and the practitioner will discuss the desired outcome of the treatment. This will determine which parts of your body require massage. A typical full body treatment will include work on your back, arms, legs, feet, hands, head, neck, gluts, abdominal muscles, and your shoulders. You will not be touched on or near your genitals (male or female) or breasts (female).
WHAT WILL IT FEEL LIKE: What will the massage feel like? It depends on the techniques used. In an Orthopedic Massage or Deep Tissue Massage your session will include focus to areas of muscular tension and will include varying degrees of deep pressure within the client's comfort level. In a relaxation massage, your session will start with broad, flowing stokes which will help to calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your muscles becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. Massage and bodywork are most effective when your body is not resisting.
WHAT ARE THE TECHNIQUES USED:Are there different kinds of massage and bodywork? There are numerous type of massage and bodywork various techniques utilize different stokes, including basic rubbing stokes, rocking movement, posture and movement reeducation, application of pressure to specific points, etc. Ask the practitioner about the methods he or she uses.
HOW LONG IS A TREATMENT SESSION: How long will the sessions last? The average massage session or treatments last approximately one hour. You have a choice of 60 min , 75 min, 90 min, 120 min or 150 min sessions.
WHAT DO I DO: What should I do during the massage or bodywork session? Make yourself comfortable. The practitioner will either move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Some people choose to tune out distraction. Others like to talk during their massage or bodywork. During Orthopedic Massage there may be communication necessary with the client to discuss treatment focus. Feel free to ask the practitioner questions about massage and bodywork in general or about the particular technique you are receiving.
IS IT PAINFUL?: How will I feel after the massage or bodywork session? Most people feel very relaxed. Ideally, you will experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity, which can last for days. Aftercare and recommendations will be made by your therapist post treatment and may include stretching, hot/cold use, etc.
AROMATHERAPY: One option of Aromatherapy is included during each massage session (upon request) and if you have a special requests, please let us know before your scheduled session, so that we can accommodate accordingly and have it ready for you diffusing in the oil dispenser in the as well as during your massage session. Many establishments will charge extra for this option, but we believe that the benefits of aromatherapy should not be an additional charge, but more of a complimentary feature for your treatment. If you have any special medical conditions, irritations or allergies please let us know in advance and we can avoid irritating any of these conditions and to ensure that you receive the maximum benefit of the healing power of essential oils and aromatherapy.
MEDICAL CONDITIONS: Are there any medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inadvisable? Before you begin your first session, you will need to fill out a heath intake form. Your therapist will ask you some general health questions. It's very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under doctors' care, or experiencing an acute injury, it is strongly recommended that you receive a written recommendation for massage prior to any treatment.
OUT-CALL MASSAGES: We do offer out-call massages where the therapist comes to you to the privacy of your own home. The therapist will bring their table, sheets, oils and music of preference directly to your home for a relaxing massage experience, and you don't even have to lift a finger or leave the comfort of your own home! These appointments can be scheduled on the website or with the therapist personally and require at least a 24 - 48 hour notice to accommodate for time travel and schedule.
Policy: Out-call massages are for established clients only that are approved by the owner and therapist and have been loyal clients with Indigo Body Massage & Orthopedics for at least one year or more. This is a safety precaution set in place for the safety of the therapist (and the client). A 24 - Hour cancellation policy also applies to ALL booked out-call massage appointments.
